..pop goes the weazel..

The Mavis's - Venus Returning. Has almost completely restored our faith in indie pop after a couple of lame years. There is even a Mavis's Homepage, but last time I checked it wasn't very up to date. Who could believe these guys originated from Ballarat (that comment comes from someone who spent way too many school holidays in that town...).

My Friend The Chocolate Cake - My Friend The Chocolate Cake, Brood, Good Luck. This band kind of evolved from the very talented, but sadly defunct, Not Drowning, Waving - who get Tim's vote for one of the best Australian bands ever. MFTCC are quite different - less focus on percussion, samples and mighty weird guitar noises - but still pretty darn good, and featuring David Bridie's excellent lyrics. My Friend The Chocolate Cake is a basic kind of homepage about the band. Another excellent CD is Projects, 1983-1993 by David Bridie & John Phillips which features soundtrack and stage work these guys have completed over the years - check out their dance mix of a Cambodian song, Breu Peyney.

Ed Kuepper - Honey Steels's Gold, Character Assassination, Serene Machine, Today Wonder, Black Ticket Day. Now some people say Ed can't sing but he beats the pants of that other ex-Saints person. Wish he would stop making so many damn albums though, because it's almost impossible to keep up with his work. The Official Ed Kuepper Site even has complete CDs only available by mail order. I'm not even going to bother....

Bjork - Debut, Post. Anybody who can mangle the word 'ghettoblaster' like Bjorkie does and not ruin the song, must have some kind of talent. Bjork's Web Sense is her very own bit of webspace.

Nick Cave - The Good Son, The Murder Ballads, Henry's Dream, Tender Prey, Let Love In, Kicking Against The Pricks, The First Born Is Dead. Another one of these wonder talents who just keeps releasing really good albums, and is consistently good live. Not too sure about his obsession with the old bible, but hey, he is responsible for making Tim like a song with Kylie Minogue's voice in it. Cave Inn is a Nick Cave site I guess....
